Top 5 Hottest Movies of Summer 2010
Like all good things, summer 2010 has come to an end. It was a big year for movies. Let’s take an unnecessarily critical look at the top 5 highest grossing films:
1. Toy Story 3
Virtually everyone in my graduating class ran out to the movie theater to watch Toy Story 3 and cry about how they grew up with the franchise. Even though I wasn’t too interested in seeing the film myself, I can appreciate the nostalgia factor and I’m not surprised it was the highest grossing film of the summer.
2. Iron Man 2
I’ve never seen the first Iron Man, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, even from my mom who doesn’t like any movies and saw 15 minutes of it at the gym once, so it makes sense that the sequel would do well.
3. Twilight: Eclipse
The success of the Twilight franchise boggles my mind. Granted, I’ve never read any of the books these movies are based on, but I’ve watched enough of the first movie to determine that it is horrendous. The scene with the vampires playing softball was the last straw for me! I can only imagine what stupidity goes down in the second installment!
4. Inception
I’m surprised Inception only rang in at number 4, considering it seems like everyone has been talking about it. Unlike the other films on this list that I judge without seeing, I actually have seen Inception. However, I understood so little of it that I might as well have just watched the trailer.
5. Despicable Me
Despicable Me seems like the kind of kids’ movie that adults might be able to tolerate. It follows the current formula of animated characters with famous voices. In this case, the voices are the always funny Jason Segel , Russell Brand, and Steve Carell, so really the filmmakers couldn’t go wrong.
